Enviropreneurship: The future of Environmental Health Practice
Enviropreneurship: The future of Environmental Health Practice
Enviropreneurship is coined from two words, environment and entrepreneurship. The environment as we understand it in this context has to do with its health and the practitioners of environmental health while entrepreneurship deals with starting and owning business.
For a number of years, we have been made to believe that Environmental health is purely a social service just like its sister, Primary Health care. As much as there are truths in this, things are changing as the world itself changes. Remember that the only constant thing in life is change.
However, the future of every professional practice is it's private practice. This was sounded profusely by the immediate past Registrar of EHORECON, San. Augustine Ebisike who has not hidden his love for the entrepreneurial development of environmental health.
Our arguments over the years have been: which part of the profession can we practice on our own. And my answer have always been several.
Another issue we haggle over is funds. How do I begin? Where do I get the funds from? It is capital intensive, etc. But I dare to say these are mere flimsy excuses that holds no water. Like I said in one of my articles, many of our unemployed EHOs will be reading this post on their Infinix Hot4, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge or IPhone5. The cost of any of these gadgets are more than enough to start a small business in environmental health.
It is just about mindset, priority and will power.
Rather than continually complain or wait for a government job that may not be forthcoming, it's high time we begin to look into Enviropreneurship as the way out.
And to the elders and leaders in the profession, it's high time you begin to mentor somebody today. Help someone today. Assist someone today. Encourage someone today. Provide help for someone today. Share knowledge with someone today. In the long run, we shall all be better for it.
In the next article, we will be looking into specifics of the Enviropreneurship.
God bless you!

Femi, let me express my heart felt happiness for this platform. God will continue to increase your wisdom. On the subject,it is time for people of like minds come together for the benefit of this profession. Already some are into private practice and gradually navigating the rough paths. I believe we have more ground to cover. Our space in the environment sector is begging for occupation. Yes! we must start from somewhere. I agreed with you that the young EHOs do not prioritized their needs, which is quite unfortunate. Although the situation is not bad but those of us that are at the grass root should take the bull by the horn. We have access to these young ones, please adopt one today! Our future is bright!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the encouraging words sir. It is highly appreciated.
DeleteIt is my prayer that young sanitarians will see the need to grab the opportunity of entrepreneurship before its too late.
And that we practitioners will do the needful to them.
Once again, thank you sir.
