PREVENTING THE LASSA FEVER SCOURGE IN ABEOKUTA AND ENVIRONS

*STILL ON LASSA FEVER:STOPPING AN EPIDEMIC*

In a time not too distant from now, news broke out that FMC one of the foremost public health institution in the state recorded the death of one of its nurses due to lassa fever (a highly infectious and deadly disease caused by rats)

Information at my disposal has it that, the disease has claimed another victim, this time not at the FMC and not one of those quarantined at the hospital for observation but another person who however is not unconnected to the FMC line of people who had contact with one of the dead victim

Though the latest victim is reported to have died at the UCH in Ibadan but she was the mother of the boy who worked at FMC morgue and who attended to the corpse of the original victim brought in dead to the hospital

In fact it was in the course of treating the boy that the nurse that later died got infected

The issue here is that the latest victim that eventually died at the UCH had before her death refused to be quarantined for monitoring claiming religious belief.

Also Abd further complicating the issue is the fact that the dead woman was taken to Mercy Group Hospital before being referred to the UCH

Going by all these, and bearing in mind the lethality of the disease and its high rate of contagiousness there's need for the  health authority in the state to swing into immediate action and do the needful

Please let's use our personality and connection on this platform to alert those that matter

A stitch in time can save more than nine

Thank you
