Welcome to March!

Image
Welcome to March! It's the first month of the old Roman calendar. The third month in the Gregorian calendar. It is associated with productivity and warfare.  In the month of March, may all your endeavours bring the desired productivity and victory.  May you March on to greatness and prosperity in all you lay your hands on.  Every enemy of progress and distractions on your way to possession, you will March over them into victory.  Don't give in to fear, don't allow doubt, and don't anticipate failure. Your victory is only a faith away. Do good to someone this month. Help the needy, feed the poor, defend the defenceless, clean your surroundings, pay someone's transport fare, pray for the nation, love your neighbor, visit the sick, call your parents, and remember the orphans.  Rejoice, for Victory and Productivity await in March!  Happy New Month of March from Wolewole.com  Femi Abolade is a Licensed EHO, writer, author and p

Expired, Dented and Spoilt Tomato Paste Confiscated in Isara

Image
Environmental Health Officers in Isara, the headquarters of Remo North Local government last Thursday February 16th, intercepted and confiscated expired and already spoilt canned tomato paste numbering over 500 pieces. The said goods were brought into the Isara market for sale at ridiculously low prices which alerted the officers. The canned products also had signs of burns which signaled that they might have been recovered from sites of destruction. The tins have also been dented at various degrees making its consumption very prejudicial to health. Sanitarian Paul Amosun who led the inspection team revealed that the perpetrators came with the mindset of selling the expired and spoilt items to the unsuspecting members of the public. The general public is therefore being warned to always watch out for production and expired dates of canned goods before buying and consumption. The perpetrators have since then been arrested and will be duly arraigned in court while th

Today I will just list a few of them and explain very briefly. Later I am trusting God for time to send a complete tutorial on how to start and manage these ventures. Let me also add that many of these enviropreneural ventures, even though are cost effective, can be done by you, I mean you, with the little or nothing that you have. The major tools you need are self determination, strong will, refusal to listen to discouraging voices, patience and persistence. Remember my little story about enviropreneurship? You can read it up here... http://femiabolade.blogspot.com.ng/2017/02/enviropreneurship-my-little-story.html?m=1 Ok! Back to business. The following are money making ventures: 1. The Fear Factor Inhibiting Environmental Health Growth.

Image
The Fear Factor Inhibiting Environmental Health Growth. Have you ever been afraid? Oh! What a silly question. That's like asking if you ever fart in the public before, often times. One major issue that affects both young and old, male and female, friends and foes alike is fear. Fear has been described by some psychologists as False Expectations Appearing Real. Others have termed it "Flee Everything And Run". Whatever definition we give to it, fear is a factor of the mind. A rush of emotions which raises, often times, self-consciousness and a feeling of inability. Just as fear affects everyone, it is also an albatross of the Environmental Health Profession. People fear for various reasons and various things. Some people are afraid of failure while some are afraid of success. While some have the fear of rejection, others have the fear of ready acceptance. Why is fear such an issue in the profession? Many people do certain things or fails to do be

Enviropreneurship: My Little Story

Image
Enviropreneurship: My Little Story We have laid the foundation of this topic and I am not too surprised at some of the comments I have seen on its facebook posts. The issue of unemployment in this profession is not a joking matter and I am quite aware of that. Yet, I am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that enviropreneurship is the way to go for our graduates. If you are yet to read the series one and two of enviropreneurship on this blog, you can read it here: http://femiabolade.blogspot.com.ng/2017/01/enviropreneurship-future-of.html?m=1 and http://femiabolade.blogspot.com.ng/2017/01/enviropreneurship-future-starts-here.html?m=1 Below are some of the snapshots of some people's comments on our previous articles on facebook.     Before I continue, let me share this little story with you.       In 2005, after my 1 year and 4 months ECOMOG in Lagos Island West LCDA, Olowogbowo office, I returned to Ore in Ondo state to face an unprepared future. The Ethical and Professional Code of Conduct for Environmental Health Practitioners in Nigeria

Image
The Ethical and Professional Code of Conduct for Environmental Health Practitioners in Nigeria The Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) was established by Act 11 of 2002. Section 27(a)(b)  of the Act empowers the Council to make incidental and supplementary provisions for different circumstances. A code of ethics provides members of a profession with standard of behavior and principles to be observed regarding individual moral and professional obligations, towards one another, their

An Open Letter to my Kopa Sanitarians.

An Open Letter to my Kopa Sanitarians. Let me use this opportunity to congratulate you on this great achievement of yours, for being part of the hundred of thousands of youths that have been called up to serve their father land. It is indeed a great opportunity. It will do you good to remember that there are many of your colleagues who desired to reach that height but couldn't, for one reason or another. First and foremost, remember that many of your senior environmental health graduates fought for what you enjoy today but could not go for service in their own time. I was fortunate to be one of such. Do not forget also, that many of your colleagues in some Schools of Health in Nigeria, up till this moment, can still not go for NYSC for various reasons. Do you now see reasons why you should be grateful? I bet you do. But here is the purpose of my short letter to you. I just wish to call your attention to few things. For a starter, be a good ambassador of the Envi
